Lettering

COMIC LETTERING

Lettering, while often overlooked, is the final step in the comic production process, and is what brings a comic to life. Good lettering helps support the theme and mood, it evokes emotion, it is crystal clear, and it sets the path that leads the reader’s eye through the page. When done well, lettering is fluid and makes the reader’s experience seamless and automatic. Done poorly, it can make a comic grating, or at worst, near-incomprehensible.
I started lettering my own comics because I wanted to be as useful as possible to the artists with whom I collaborated as a writer. As it turned out, I had the right blend of obsessiveness, eye-for-detail, and design skills to be a good letterer. Whether Western or manga, pen-and-ink, watercolor, for kids or for adults, I can develop a style that matches and enhances your comic’s art.
